GUN TOTING MAMA ACTIVIST HAS MADE THE NEWS!!

Guess it is a small world. This was just published and the actions speak louder than the words.
http://www.opposingviews.com/i/society/animal-rights/animal-rights-activist-eileen-smulson-poses-gun-facebook-targets-shelter
“Operation Blankets of Love” website tells us it “is an award-winning non-profit 501(c)3 public charity” and that Eileen Smulson founded the organization because, “I wanted to make sure every homeless pet had warmth and comfort by having a blanket to snuggle in while they were waiting to be adopted into a loving forever home.”
Most postings by animal rescuers and activists are slathered with phrases like, “saving precious lives,” “finding forever homes” and “speaking for the voiceless,” so immediately the image of the animal-rights’ equivalent of Mother Teresa pops into mind.
Boy, were we wrong! Looks like the “arms” that comfort distressed shelter animals have changed dramatically.

That's one of the problems these days is the misconception that when someone says they rescue animals, immediately people think that they are the salt of the earth. Nothing could be further from the truth. Fact is that humane work attracts a lot of warped minds, egos, abusers, etc. Actions speak much louder than words and the actions of these activists speaks loads that they aren't doing this to save lives, their actions are taking lives.
Without naming those who may be Eileen’s targets, I learned from shelter staff and her own YouTube video that the founder of Operation Blankets of Love is upset that the shelter cannot promise blankets she wants to provide will be used throughout this municipal shelter’s kennel.

While the image of animals curled up on soft blankies is appealing, the reality is that they are often ripped into shreds and ingested by the animals. Blankets are also often the cause of violent fights in which dogs are seriously injured. The Devore shelter, I’m told, also uses a septic pump which can become clogged by pieces of the blankets, causing the animal waste to back up into the kennels.
Denial of emergency room visits from dogs eating blankets only means dogs dying a painful death. Devore isn't staffed 24 hours a day. Those blankets are to stroke the ego of this Smulson, that's all.
The official statistics show that 8 of the 12 shelters serving this county euthanize MORE than the Devore shelter. So, why is Devore being targeted?
That's the question I want answered too, WHY DEVORE?

  1. It is unfortunate that individuals elect to harass others in this manner. If someone who works for the animal shelter is harmed as a result of this photo at least the victim of the harassment will know who to “sue.” Hopefully the Blankets of Love non-profit corporation has good liability insurance. This photo and article should be sent to the Attorney General’s Office as an example of the inappropriate behavior and terrorists threats being advanced by this non-profit corporation and the President of the organization’s Board of Directors. I wonder if the Attorney General’s Office supports this type of conduct and advertising. Do you think Facebook actually promotes terrorists threats? Someone should find out.

  2. NK does attract some unsavory characters, that's for sure. Here in DE on the NK Delaware site, I've see one guy complaining that animal control, the police, and the judge all were wrong in a court case. In another case there is a man who ties his dogs to a few junk cars on his property where they can get tangled around tires and whined about animal control requiring shelter other than the junk cars, and to make it even more amusing shows a picture of himself in a long skirt (not cross dressed, he appeared to just be bragging that he is different). Another was a pitbull breeder, and we know how every shelter is just looking for more pitbulls. And the typical cast of characters complaining that animal control did them or a friend wrong, despite the fact that they get their day in court. So it doesn't surprise me the NK attracts that same low life element everywhere they lurk. Maybe we're spay neutering the wrong species.

  3. This woman doesn't think that this picture might be shown to the children of the Devore staff along with her comment. You don't think it would scare children? These activists don't care who they hurt.

And yes, Jake, I agree, we are neutering the wrong species.

  4. I agree completely regarding scaring the children and even other family members of Devore staff, but what's even more disconcerting is that this woman might have children of her own or even nieces and nephews, and she's showing them this kind of hateful example. And we wonder why there is such a bullying problem with kids today. Bullying has always been part of growing up, but the level it has gone to is indicative of people like this woman. Anyone that lacks compassion to the degree these individuals do, shouldn't be in charge of an ant farm, let alone companion animals or children.

  5. I believe I saw something today to that effect on the Opposing Views article.

parents should not allow their children in the same zip code as eileen smulson.

So it appears that others see the same as you see about this sort of behavior. I have told a story before about a wonderful ACO quitting her job because her son came home from school crying. Some kid said to her son that his mother murdered animals. Many good people are being lost because of these terrorists. And I say terrorists because it is a terrorist who doesn't care who or what gets hurt, as long as they get their gratification, whatever that may be.

  6. My concern is that an unstable individual will be motivated to make threats against the shelter because of this Facebook page.

  7. Many people have expressed the same thing. I immediately thought the same thing when I first saw the picture.

  8. I agree. Here is a cut and paste of it from the website. Seems this woman has a very odd sense of humor.

  9. Here the NKers are calling for "civil disobedience" at animal controls - according to www.honestdog.com's headline, it reads:

"It’s time for civil disobedience in the No-Kill Movement"
    .
Isn't that website authored by the Vet M. Becker and G.Spadafori?

    http://www.honestdog.com/2012/03/19/occupy-animal-control-its-time-for-civil-disobedience-in-the-no-kill-movement/comment-page-1/#comment-513102
    .
Maybe the authorities should save time and just put all NKers on the "red" list.

  11. Anon, all are breeders. And who stands to gain from scaring people away from shelters so more euthanization, the breeders and the rescues. It's these types pushing the public away with demonstrations and all, that are actually deliberately killing animals in the shelters, all for their own agendas. Of course, a breeder wants to stir up trouble for the shelters, it brings more business for the breeder when people are too scared to go to the shelter.

  12. Judging from other cities/states, they appear to be trying (per their agenda) to get Devore's Director fired - so they can get one of their NK breeders/allies in the position. That's what they appear to be doing across the nation.

They are frauds - and should be investigated as such since they solicit donations and are misrepresenting themselves.

I think it was Miami Dade (Florida)'s shelter who their director finally resigned due to the harassment - then the shelter appointed a NON Nk person in the position. lol talk about the NKers being mad at that. They still haven't shut up.

And - they stir up strife to deflect attention/blame from the dog breeders - but they are referring to themselves as "rescues" and "animal welfare advocates" which I see as nothing less than straight up fraud.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Anon:47 Strangely enough, the first protest saw the breeders come face to face with the activists and the breeders were defending Devore. Plus the breeders have been speaking out defending Devore. This breeder group had Bill Bruce to do a seminar for them in San Bernardino. I have no explanation, kinda goes against the grain. I do have to speak up for them whatever their motives are.

  14. I've noticed a few more of their predictable patterns ...
    .
They will pick a dog off of a shelter's petfinder or county website - then "claim" they called to inquire about adopting him/her - then when the dog is euthanized, they go to the media hollering about how the "cruel, killing, non NK" director killed a dog who had a home waiting on him - and begin demanding the firing of the director.
Perfect example - Miami Dade Animal Services. They kept on and on until Dr. Sara Pizano resigned - then their websites were riddled with "VICTORY - PIZANO RESIGNS".
    * How any decent person can claim "Victory" for causing a person to lose their job/paycheck in this economy is beyond logic.
    .
    AND ...
    .
These dog breeding NKers represent a few areas of animal use - the BSL and pro pittie crowd - which also covers AKC registration issues.
    .
    Breeders
    .
    Groomers
    .
    Trainers (agility, beauty contests, etc)
    .
    AND ...
    .
They are making sure to be seen/heard doing their "spay/neuter' campaigns, but corner one of them with MSN and watch how vicious they turn.
    .
They relentlessly bash the HSUS, Peta and the Aspca.
    .
They refer to anyone who is against their NK agenda as "killing apologists" or "Dr. Death" or "Dr. Cruel".
    .
They claim to the media and public that it is the shelter/director who is responsible for the high euth rates.
    .
They claim there is no pet overpopulation.
    .
    .
They are frauds - nothing more ,nothing less.
    .

  15. Anon:00 now the activists will accuse this blog of allowing "ranting" so to offset that, I will state now. I agree with what you say. I do see all of this as part of a scheme to force the issue of, not a goal, but an agenda, the "No Kill Equation". There's a big difference between the two.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'll call it a "rant" - if animals are being used for their evil breeder agenda, then I'll be a proud ranter.

Rescues - the real humane ones who work to help animals, not themselves - have a no kill "MENTALITY" - that is a given in the real humane animal welfare community.

But these "No Kill" (note the caps) are pushing an "AGENDA" - one that they think is going to give them the majority vote and control within the real animal welfare community - and they are pushing their evil agenda at the expense of the always innocent animals.

No person of any decency would do that - so it's not a big shock that it's dog breeders behind this train wreck.

Sign me - I rant for the animals

    ReplyDelete
  17. Your's is no rant to me, Anon:26. I agree totally. There are two different things. These Devore activists are "No Kill", in it for their own agendas, their own egos. Their actions prove they don't care about the animals. What few they pull from Devore is just to give themselves a front to say they are "rescues".

  18. http://www.petplace.com/dogs/rescue-scams--what-you-should-know/page1.aspx
rescues should be checking adopting home out first. NOT adopting tons of dogs and shipping them out across the country (not spayed or neutered) to god knows where. maybe we should do home checks on the rescues.

    ReplyDelete
  19. The only rescue scams I've seen are breeders incognito who are claiming to be rescues to make money by peddling designer dogs.

Enter the dog breeder NKers - who ship animals to other countries (LA to Canada) to help cook their "save" rate.

  21. in reference to my post 5/20/12 9:22pm, i was talking about local "rescues" who adopt 1000's of dogs a yr from both city and county shelters and a week later they have the slightest idea what state the dog is living in now. they pay the "pullers" to do the adoption. next a kennel till they can find a place to ship the poor dog off to. how about canada???

Different legal outlooks on animals in Canada.

Despite growing opposition to pound seizure, Animal Alliance of Canada states, “Canadian research facilities can still access lost pets for use in experimentation. In 2007, 9,175 lost and abandoned dogs and cats were used in labs across Canada.
”According to Animal Alliance, pound seizure (releasing shelter animals for research) is still legal in Ontario; and Quebec law remains silent on the issue, so “…contractors supply lost pet animals to research in the absence of any legal requirement to do so.” In other provinces where the law is silent on the issue of pound seizure but where researchers seek out lost pets, municipalities refuse to supply those pets for experimental purposes..

2007 statistics from the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) show, “…of the 4,243 cats used in experiments, 3,170 came from pounds, a staggering 75%. For the same year, 6,005 or 52% of the 11,483 dogs came from pounds.”

    1. i did not mean local rescues. it appears to be "rescues" who live out of the area. after a recent encounter with one, i would also like to say, yes money will help your rescue efforts. however acting like a elitist/know it all will not make people automatically listen to you. if the activities want to be trusted, they must show they are trustworthy.
