GAME ON!!!

The No Kill Equation movement of Nathan Winograd has taken a major blow from PeTA and you need to know about it.

For years, Winograd has spewed forth nothing but hate. To read his blog means reading more words like murder, torture, killing and execution more times than a Syrian new bulletin. He hates the HSUS, the ASPCA, and PeTA with a passion that is more closely related to mental illness than passion. He distorts the truth about all of them in hopes of destroying their donor base. Of course, he also hopes that donor base comes into his bank account. He wants to stop the only organizations who stand up against the cruelty of puppy mills, hoarding, dog fighting. Why would anyone want to do that? Especially when No Kill offers nothing to take up the slack.

Here is the expose of No Kill shelters, the truth behind them. Many of these are bragging rights for No Kill but there is nothing to brag about. To turn away animals mean their being dumped to fend for themselves. Not only is that cruel to the animals, but it presents a definite public health and safety risk with strays. No Kill doesn't care, if those animals are outta sight, they don't exist.

Winograd published a piece of trash about PeTA this week in the Huff Puff (Huffington Post) and I will not put up the link. All he did was reiterate the same old stuff he has been saying time and time again. He offered no proof of his accusations, nothing was new news so to speak. But PeTA had a little surprise awaiting Mr. Winograd. The video shows that each and every No Kill shelter was full, turning away surrenders, AND REFERRING THOSE TO THE VERY SHELTERS THAT NO KILL CONDEMNS. Can anyone say hypocritical?

How many words has Winograd written to discredit PeTA, and PeTA has managed to crush Winograd in a short, 8 minute video. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Read, think, and then tell Winograd to take a hike.

OWNER TURNAWAYS BECOME PUBLIC SURRENDERS AND PETS END UP WITH NO NAME

There is a part of No Kill that really disturbs me and that is the one concerning owner surrenders. Sure we all know the occasional excuse that the pet didn't match the new sofa, but most of the time the reasons are quite different. Especially in this poor economy where people are losing their homes, their lives, and they are forced into surrendering their pets.

Rancho Cucamonga is a good study example of what happens when owners are turned away. When Rancho went No Kill, suddenly Rancho residents were showing at the surrounding shelters trying to surrender their pets because Rancho was turning them away. Of course, Rancho denied that but it was pretty obvious to everyone. Two news articles referred to the long lines waiting to surrender when No Kill was declared. These articles referred to pets being abandoned at the shelter as well. It is no coincidence that the number of public surrenders increased.

Public surrenders are when a good Samaritan picks up an animal off the streets and brings it to the shelter. Rancho's public surrenders increased dramatically after becoming No Kill. That means that owners were turning their pets in as strays in order to get the shelter to take them. These owners and pets were already traumatized but to make it worse is when the pet is left with no history - no name. How cruel can No Kill be to rob a pet of their name, a name that could help them survive better in the shelter. But this is what is happening with the No Kill shelters.

This story reminded me of this cruelty bestowed by the No Kill movement.

They told me the big black Lab's name was Reggie, as I looked at him lying in his pen. The shelter was clean, no-kill, and the people really friendly. I'd only been in the area for six months, but everywhere I went in the small college town, people were welcoming and open. Everyone waves when you pass them on the street. But something was still missing as I
attempted to settle in to my new life here, and I thought a dog couldn't hurt. Give me someone to talk to. And I had just seen Reggie's advertisement on the local news. The shelter said they had received numerous calls right after, but they said the people who had come down to see him just didn't look like "Lab people," whatever that meant. They must've thought I did.

But at first, I thought the shelter had misjudged me in giving me Reggie and his things, which consisted of a dog pad, bag of toys almost all of which were brand new tennis balls, his dishes and a sealed letter from his previous owner.

See, Reggie and I didn't really hit it off when we got home. We struggled for two weeks (which is how long the shelter told me to give him to adjust to his new home). Maybe it was the fact that I was trying to adjust, too.
Maybe we were too much alike.

I saw the sealed envelope. I had completely forgotten about that. "Okay, Reggie," I said out loud, "let's see if your previous owner has any advice."
____________ _________ _________ _________

To Whomever Gets My Dog:

Well, I can't say that I'm happy you're reading this, a letter I told the shelter could only be opened by Reggie's new owner. I'm not even happy writing it. He knew something was different.

So let me tell you about my Lab in the hopes that it will help you bond with him and he with you.

First, he loves tennis balls. The more the merrier. Sometimes I think he's part squirrel, the way he hoards them. He usually always has two in his mouth, and he tries to get a third in there. Hasn't done it yet. Doesn't
matter where you throw them, he'll bound after them, so be careful. Don't do it by any roads.

Next, commands. Reggie knows the obvious ones ---"sit," "stay," "come," "heel."

He knows hand signals, too: He knows "ball" and "food" and "bone" and "treat" like nobody's business.

Feeding schedule: twice a day, regular store-bought stuff; the shelter has the brand. He's up on his shots. Be forewarned: Reggie hates the vet. Good luck getting him in the car. I don't know how he knows when it's time to go to the vet, but he knows.

Finally, give him some time. It's only been Reggie and me for his whole life. He's gone everywhere with me, so please include him on your daily car rides if you can. He sits well in the backseat, and he doesn't bark or complain. He just loves to be around people, and me most especially.

And that's why I need to share one more bit of info with you...His name's not Reggie. He's a smart dog, he'll get used to it and will respond to it, of that I have no doubt. But I just couldn't bear to give them his real name. But if someone is reading this ... well it means that his new owner should know his real name. His real name is "Tank." Because, that is what I drive.

I told the shelter that they couldn't make "Reggie" available for adoption until they received word from my company commander. You see, my parents are gone, I have no siblings, no one I could've left Tank with .. and it was my only real request of the Army upon my deployment to Iraq, that they make one phone call to the shelter ... in the "event" ... to tell them that Tank could be put up for adoption. Luckily, my CO is a dog-guy, too, and he knew where my platoon was headed. He said he'd do it personally. And if you're reading this, then he made good on his word.

Tank has been my family for the last six years, almost as long as the Army has been my family. And now I hope and pray that you make him part of your family, too, and that he will adjust and come to love you the same way he
loved me.

If I have to give up Tank to keep those terrible people from coming to the US I am glad to have done so. He is my example of service and of love. I hope I honored him by my service to my country and comrades.

All right, that's enough. I deploy this evening and have to drop this letter off at the shelter. Maybe I'll peek in on him and see if he finally got that third tennis ball in his mouth.

Good luck with Tank. Give him a good home, and give him an extra kiss goodnight - every night - from me.

Thank you,

Paul Mallory
____________ _________ _________ _______
I folded the letter and slipped it back in the envelope. Sure, I had heard of Paul Mallory, everyone in town knew him, even new people like me. Local kid, killed in Iraq a few months ago and posthumously earning the Silver
Star when he gave his life to save three buddies. Flags had been at half-mast all summer.

I leaned forward in my chair and rested my elbows on my knees, staring at the dog.

"Hey, Tank," I said quietly.

The dog's head whipped up, his ears cocked and his eyes bright.

"C'mere boy."

He was instantly on his feet, his nails clicking on the hardwood floor. He sat in front of me, his head tilted, searching for the name he hadn't heard in months. "Tank," I whispered.

His tail swished.

I kept whispering his name, over and over, and each time, his ears lowered, his eyes softened, and his posture relaxed as a wave of contentment just seemed to flood him. I stroked his ears, rubbed his shoulders, buried my
face into his scruff and hugged him.

"It's me now, Tank, just you and me. Your old pal gave you to me." Tank reached up and licked my cheek.

"So whatdaya say we play some ball?" His ears perked again.

"Yeah? Ball? You like that? Ball?"

Tank tore from my hands and disappeared into the next room. And when he came back, he had three tennis balls in his mouth.

"TIS THE SEASON FOR THE SHRILLS, THEY ARE OUT IN FORCE

The infamous "No Kill" shrills are keeping the internet hot these days. They are running scared right now. Susanne Kogut in Charlottesville, VA was just kicked to the curb. With the forced early retirement of Schneider in Reno, the house of cards has already fallen, now the cornerstones are leaving as well.

Seems there is a new shrill on the scene. This shrill is writing pieces against PeTA, but not so much as he is pimping "No Kill". Classic example of those pimping "No Kill", bought his pets from breeders, has no shelter experience, nothing to back himself up. He drank the koolaid and now he's learning a hard lesson. http://www.workingtohelpanimalstodaytomorrow.blogspot.com/2012/07/who-is-douglas-anthony-cooper.html

Aside from this foolish shrill, there seems to be more foolish shrills. This one has started a petition about Devore and she lives in Montana. Look at the signatures, how many are from San Bernardino? How many of those do you think have ever even been to Devore? http://www.change.org/petitions/to-josie-gonzales-stop-the-unnecessary-killing-at-devore-animal-shelter

But what about this one who lives in New Hampshire. I mean to say she is 4000 miles away and wants to condemn a shelter she has never seen?????

Greetings,
I just signed the following petition addressed to: To: Josie Gonzales, Doug Smith, Mrs. Kelly Papp, Gov. Jerry Brown
----------------
Stop the unnecessary killing at Devore Animal Shelter!
Please sign to call for an investigation of the dishonesty that goes on in this shelter due to their discrimination of certain breeds and their timely put to sleep time. There is mishandling of animals and misinformation reported to prospective adopters to discourage adoption. And even if the adopter is still interested, they can pull the dog and put them to sleep. To increase awareness of what is going on inside this animal shelter. There needs to be a reform/investigation of the practices at Devore. There needs to be investigation practices whereas the facility does not know when someone will be arriving to do such investigation. Possible removal of the people in charge. Dogs and Cats are killed daily, and not even given a fair chance to be adopted. Money is being raised constantly by outside sources to rescue these animals, only to have them put to sleep before being able to assemble needed practices, paperwork, etc. This is sickening! This needs to stop, these poor animals deserve a chance!
----------------
Sincerely,
Tammy Lord

It is indeed a scary thought that these sorts of people live among us. This is a cultist attitude, following with mindless abandon. Such is the cult of "No Kill".

HEADLINES TODAY: GRAND JURY CAN'T FIND ANIMAL CRUELTY AT DEVORE

It's things like this that put me back in childhood because all I want to do is thumb my nose and say "I told you so" to these self proclaimed activists. These activists/terrorists have done all they can do other than bombing the shelter. I don't put that past them either, they don't care about the harm they do to animals so why not?

Now I ask, does it sound like we need an animal commission?

 http://extras.mnginteractive.com/live/media/site208/2012/0629/20120629_025421_2011-12%20Grand%20Jury%20Final%20Report.pdf

DEVORE ANIMAL SHELTER
BACKGROUND

The Grand Jury received a public complaint regarding the issue of potential animal cruelty and the acceptance of donations. Information regarding the complaint was also on the internet. The Grand Jury researched the internet to get a better picture of what was allegedly transpiring at the Devore Animal Shelter (Devore). The Grand Jury found additional information on the internet of alleged abuse at Devore.  In order to obtain impartial information from Devore, members of the Grand Jury visited Devore, posing as members of the public, interested in a possible adoption. The Grand Jury also investigated three additional animal shelters within the San Bernardino County for the purpose of comparison of facility conditions and animal care. An official Grand Jury follow-up visit to Devore focused on the facility and animal care.

FINDINGS
1. Devore is clean and the animals are well cared for and receive regular veterinarian care. The kennels were well-ventilated and food and water were readily available to all of the animals. Conditions were consistent with all inspected facilities.
2. Devore maintains sub-floor heating in all kennels at the facility, keeping the animals warm. There are resting platforms in each kennel and blankets are available for older or ill dogs.
3. Cats are housed separately in a clean-smelling room near the reception desk of the Administration Building.
4. The following chart contains data comparing Devore with animal shelters in Apple Valley, Hesperia and Rancho Cucamonga.

LOCATION                         VETERINARIAN SERVICES                        EUTHANASIA RATES                    ADOPTION SITES FUNDRAISING

Apple Valley                         On-call daily; RVT* on site                               54.86% On-site and off-site              Public flyers; involve public

Hesperia                                3 contracted vets; 1 RVT                                   69.28% On-site and off-site              at Petsmart City funded and GOLF**

Rancho Cucamonga          Full-time vet;                                                        12.59% On-site and off-site              City funded; community fundraising programs
1 contracted vet – 3 times per week; 2
part-time RVTs

Devore                                   On site 3 days per week; on-call daily             45.15% On-site and off-site              at stores AARF*** fund; annual donations

All shelters, including Devore, are found to be comparable in the areas listed above.  They are also comparable and humane in their care of the animals. The animals are groomed, walked, provided playgrounds for exercise and trained to mitigate behavioral problems.

5. The Grand Jury was unable to verify the allegations contained in the public complaint.

* RVT: Registered Veterinarian Technician
** GOLF: Gift of Life – a fund for the benefits of animals
***AARF: Animals Are First fund

Responding Agency Recommendations Due Date  No response required
No response required, do you know what that means from the Grand Jury? That they found nothing to correct. Are you listening, Neil Derry?

I love how this activist/terrorist is basically called a liar here. Denise Larkin, an animal rights activist from Fallbrook in San Diego County, is among those who have complained about conditions at the Devore shelter. Larkin, who regularly rescues animals from the shelter, called conditions at the facility deplorable, despite what the Grand Jury found.
"These people are masters of cover-up," Larkin said. "That place is a hell-hole and it's a holocaust over there every day because dogs get put down daily."
But the Grand Jury couldn't find anything to bolster that claim.

Still these activists/terrorists are tying up phone lines so the public can't get through, owners looking for their pets, people wanting to adopt. How does this help the animals? It doesn't. It just shows how hateful and uncaring these activists/terrorists are. Leave Devore alone, nothing there, go spew your hate somewhere else.

MORE ON THE MARYLAND COURT CASE.

SPECIAL THANKS TO WWW.DOGSBITE.ORG

Special request from Dominic Solesky's father, post his response in Nutter threads regarding the recent Maryland ruling. You have full permission to post the following:
---
The backlash to the Maryland Court of Appeals decision by pit bull advocates are from either people who didn't read the decision or those who did, but cannot understand the following language by the Court on page 22: "Our opinion in the present case does not ban pit bulls, but puts a greater responsibility for vicious dogs where pit bull advocates have long argued it should be - with the owners and others who have the power of control over such dogs.

Our opinion imposes greater duties by reducing the standards necessary to hold owners and others liable for the attacks of their pit bulls." (See full ruling: http://bit.ly/IE9zOv). Unfortunately, too many in the "humane" business have failed to turn their attention on the real problem that allows the proliferation of ill-bred pit bulls, many of which end up being maulers: unrestrained pit bull breeders. High courts recognize that human victims of these injurious maulings must have a way to be compensated after a brutal attack. The dismal failure of "humane" and rescue groups -- both of which have had over 25 years to find a solution to the pit bull problem -- is now going to be exacerbated (more unwanted pit bulls winding up in shelters) due to this ruling. You have your own mismanagement of 25+ years to blame. Finally, due to "humane" groups failing to be honest about this breed's inherent dangerousness, high courts have made this declaration themselves.
