SPINDLETOP; A STUDY OF THE FAILURE OF "NO KILL"

Spindletop, a refuge/sanctuary proclaimed by all the followers of No Kill as a great and wonderful place. Well, if Spindletop is so wonderful for dogs, I would hate to see No Kill's version of a living hell.

Craig Malisow has a history with Nathan Winograd and No Kill. He exposed Winograd in Houston with several scathing articles. Winograd actually accused Malisow of trying to blackmail him. Winograd did erase the evidence online but here is a cache of that blackmail letter sent to Malisow's editor. http://www.nathanwinograd.com/linked/malisowblackmail.PDF

I want to mention that Craig Malisow is a pit bull owner himself. I'm sure that Spindletop hit him harder than those who don't care for the breed.

The scams and schemes surrounding No Kill are coming to light. Boggs Mountain is another one where a director was hired with the baggage of a cruelty charge behind her. No Kill doesn't vet it's followers very well it appears. All one has to do is say the term "No Kill" and they are accepted as followers without question. One note of interest in Malisow's article is about how there was a fire at Spindletop, shades of Cindy Bemis and other hoarders. Fire is quite common with these hoarding No Kill followers.

In my opinion, any one who placed a dog there and claims to be a rescuer, should be tarred and feathered. And their names should be placed on a "Do Not Adopt" list. Pets are being pulled from shelters and dumped by these radical cult members of No Kill. Here's another example that happened to Devore. http://devoreshelterfriends.blogspot.com/2012/01/not-happy-ending-for-devore-dogs-thanks.html

How many more Spindletops are there causing suffering all in the name of No Kill? Only time will tell as they get busted and it won't be soon enough.

  1. Is there a way to find out if any of the dogs pulled by rescue groups from Devore were sent to Spindletop?

    1. Devore does microchip. One dog not in Spindletop was traced to Devore when the dog was picked up by animal control in Georgia. And the majority of the Spindletop dogs are unclaimed, the ones that survived. There are plenty missing or unaccounted for. So who knows.

  2. I think all shelters should be required to post an official sign in the office informing people who turn in an animal that there is a possibility that the animal they are turning in might be pulled by a rescue group and kenneled or transported to a destination that has not been disclosed to the shelter management, that shelter management is not informed how these animals are transported, or what is the final disposition of the animal.

    1. I agree that the public should know that sort of thing. First the public has to be aware of the suffering of the No Kill movement to understand the repercussions of the statement.

  3. I think it should be the policy of all shelters to require a written acknowledgement and verbal consent from individuals who are turning in an animal that the shelter staff and management does not know where these animals will be transported, how they will be transported, or what will happen to the animals.

The person turning in an animal should also have the right to request the animal not be given to rescue or transported unless the rescue and kennel/foster home has been investigated and approved by shelter management.

    1. That would be in a perfect world, However, funding will always prevent shelters from being able to do what they need to do in order to make sure a rescue is truly a rescue.I'm all for regulating rescues. I'm all for animal control being able to do surprise inspections of foster homes by rescues.

    2. Paperwork should be designed so that when a rescue pulls animals, the rescue is required to provide the kennel/foster home/other shelter, where the animals are being transported. Visiting the kennel/foster home/alternate shelter should be done before the animals are pulled and transported to those locations. It should be an unannounced inspection.

With all the hoarding, suffering and neglect that is being committed by rescues, it seems imperative to hire one person to investigate the rescue that pulls the animals and the foster home or kennel which is listed as housing the animals.

Funding for this job could come from the income rescues derive from selling animals or from their donations.

  4. The shelter management and staff have very little control over what happens to the thousands of animals that are being pulled by rescues once the animals leave the shelter. The person turning in an animal should be required to sign a waiver, releasing the shelter from liability of possible suffering/neglect by an irresponsible rescue.

  5. The person turning in an animal should have the right to deny transporting of an animal or releasing an animals to a rescue.

The person might prefer to trust the shelter staff to do their best to find a home or have the animal euthanized rather than end up being burned alive or dieing of heat exhaustion in a plastic crate.

  6. I normally don't post here, but you guys may want to look at "City of Crowley, LA Animal Shelter". They look to be a target of the "Biscuit" crowd. Activists have made threats to the children of the director who worked to end the abuse that was happening at her shelter. Don't get me wrong, it looks as though bad things have definitely happened there; but it also looks as though the Internet crowd is coming down hard on someone who made a positive change there. Just thought about y'alls problems when I read about this shelter's story.

    1. Thanks, Georgia Bear for your posting. You are more than welcome here. Speaking of activists using children I have a posting on here about that. In the City of LA, the No Killers went into the neighborhoods where the animal control director lived and scared the children there by telling them the house where the animal murderer lived. They have no shame, they have no morals, they are nothing but cult followers, doing their Master's bidding. YesBiscuit has no mind of her own, it belongs to Winograd. http://devoreshelterfriends.blogspot.com/2012/04/years-ago-i-was-at-rancho-shelter.html
